Unauthorized Account Set Up and Billed to My AT&T Account

I opened my Aug AT&T bill to see an additional $14.98 ($15.85 with tax) under "Other Companies" for voice mail service called I-Mail. I never even heard of such a thing, much less ordered it.

I called AT&T and spoke with a very nice person who told me I needed to contact the "Other Company" and, indeed, on my AT&T bill was a phone number. I called and got Shannon, to whom I explained my situation, and to whom I stated that I wanted a full credit. Shannon very sweetly told me that I could cancel my account, but that I would not be eligible for a credit. I told her that, yes indeed I would get a credit. I told her that I realized she had a customer service job to do and that if she needed to bump me up to someone else who could make the credit happen, to go ahead and do so right now.

I was firm, and I was angry, but I did not raise my voice. She told me, "yes m'am, but you don't need to shout at me." I told her that I was firm, not shouting, but that if she was unsure, I would be happy to shout if she wanted to hear the difference. I told her I had researched her company since seeing my phone bill, I knew that what they were doing was illegal, and that they absolutely would credit me and close this account that was set up without my permission. She then told me she would issue me a "courtesy credit", and proceeded to transfer me to another person who could confirm.

I then had Kim on the line, who insisted that several weeks ago, I had completed an online order form, providing my e-mail, my phone number, and authorizing the account. That is not true, and I told her so. She said she could look up to see how the order was placed, then asked me if I'd ever heard of a company called Alabama Supercomputer Network.

I have not (but I will be researching that separately); and I told her I had never heard of it. She offered to send me a copy of the order form, but I told her that was moot, because if they had one it was ficticious and that a copy of it wouldn't change that. Kim also told me that they would extend me a "courtesy credit". She said it might take two to three billing cycles to get the credit to me, which I find absurd. I'm going to have to watch my AT&T bill very carefully to see when that credit hits. I did arrange with AT&T to put something on my account with them that would not permit "other companies" to bill through my AT&T account in the future.

According to them, if this MyIProducts tries to hit me again next month, it'll not go through. We'll see. Now, back to AT&T, I told him about the reports I found on the internet (while he and I were on the phone) that cited MyIProducts for what they were; I told him that AT&T should long ago have barred this outfit from doing what they do. We'll see about that one too.
