Watch out if it seems to be too good to be true-that is the case! My neighbor was raving how she has magic jack and calls all over and it is great, no phone bill for a year! Well with the economy I am trying to cut costs and I am searching to save money on phone bills etc. Looking for good deals! So the first thing I do the next day 8-21-08 is go on and find Magic Jack and place an order. A red flag hit me after they had my credit card number, they sent me an email saying to reply to this email right away if you want to modify your order below, so they can ship my magic jack right away. I about had a heart attack when I seen the amount that they were charging my credit card-$213.70!
Well they made the advertisement seem that you would get 2 magic jacks for the price of one $39.95 and if I got the five year plan it would only be $59.95 plus shipping and handling! So where did this $213.70 amount come from? Well, each magic jack is $39.95 plus s. H x2 and the five year plan is an additional $59.95 (each). So here I am expecting a charge of $66.90! I immediatly email back modifying my order to just one magic jack even though I wasn't happy with the five year plan tacked on too, but at least I should still save a lot of money in five years of calling anywhere any time in the United States! I waited no reply, so I ended up sending five emails to modify my order, with still no reply by the time I had to leave work and go home! The next morning (today) 8-22-08 I come to work, check my email and find that my order has been shipped with my order # reference I. D # and that they will bill my credit card today $119.90 and on 9-20-08 $93.80, so I end up live chatting with a few people from the company and they both say so sorry for any inconvenience you may have, but your shipment has already been sent and there is nothing they can do about it and they know nothing about the email sent to me to modify my order if it was not correct, that I would have to have had that taken care of with them. (which until today there was no way to talk to a live chat person from the company). So I call my credit card company to cancel the order and they say sorry, you cannot dispute an order until it is charged on your card. So I call back two more times hoping to get someone from the credit card company to help me and prevent the charge from being charged. No luck, I am pissed, so I call again and report my card stolen and verify that no charges were put on the card today, only to find out that there was a pending charge of $213.70 from Magic Jack, so the agent told me that charge would not go on my card (will have to see when I get my statement). So Magic Jack had lied again, instead of two payments they were going to stick it to me all at once! I have a sick feeling in my gut the battle is far from over! Then I go online and read about all the complaints about this company and find out even if I would of said ok, I will pay for it anyway, it would not work on my computer! I live in the mountains and DSL stops at the corner of my street, so the rest of us are stuck with dial up still - and this product will not work on dial up (which they don't advertise, along with having no return address, no customer service and no 800# for any problems)! This is just the tip of the ice burg with this company and I will be happy to do anything I can to get this company stopped to prevent anyone else being taken advantage of!
