I am extremely furious as I am typing this letter. I was ripped off by my apartment complex. This seems to happen to many people I know.
What happend was my toilet got blocked. I have done that many times in my life but never has anything like this happend. As the water reached the top it stopped and I just let it go but all of a sudden water started to come out of the sides of the toilet and was filling up the bathroom pretty quickly. I started to panic as I didnt know what to do. I opened the top of the toilet and accidently broke off the piece that has the black rubber end on it.
I tried to call my apartment complex but there was no answer then I ran there to the office in my barefeet and someone was there and I told them to get the maintenance guy it was an emergency. He then told me I could stop the water from coming out by twisting a knob on the bottom of the toilet (I had no idea about this). By the time I got back to my apartment there was water all over and it was nearing my furniture. Luckily I was able to stop it by turning the knob.
The maintenance guy didnt even come over till 45 minutes later. I was really upset. If the person in the apt office was not there for sure I would have lost everything and really damaged the apt. They had to get a carpet guy to come over and take the padding out from under the rug.
They are saying this is my fault and my responsibility. I cannot believe this. How could this be my fault? The water was coming out like the pacific ocean, I had never seen the water keep coming out the way it did.
The apt manager said it was my fault because I did not call the office. HA! What a crock, I did but there was no answer then I ran there in my barefeet. I am sooo pissed off with them I could scream! They said the piece was broken off which caused the water to come out but the water has already started to come out before I broke the piece off.
Can you believe this? What the hell do I pay rent for? It should go towards fixing things.
