Does Bank of America extort money from its customers

In a dispute over interest rate being charged by Bank of America, I requested termination of the automatic payment agreement on my credit card account with Bank of America on Monday, May 5 with an overpayment of $100.00 to cover any hidden interest charges that BOA may come up with and asked the representative to cancel my cred card account in accordance with their terms.

On May 7 I checked my account on line and found that $70.38 had been applied to interest and the balance was $-29.62 which I was expecting back from BOA.

On May 24, BOA debited my account with SSFCU for $70.38.

On may 27 I called BOA and asked for the debit to be reversed. The operator told me that it was their policy not to reverse the debit even though she confirmed that my balance was $-29.62 and that I shoould expect a check in 4-6 weeks. I repeated the same process on May 28 with the same results.

On June 6 I placed a stop payment on the debit of $70.38.

Instead of refunding the $29.62 to me, BOA charged me $39.00 for a returned check in accordence with their policy leaving me with a new balance of $9.38. Bank of America threatens to file a report with all three credit reporting agences if I do not pay them. And, yes, there will be anew charge for interest accumulated on the $9.38.

Because BOA threatens an action that would adverse my credit (EXTORTION), I have filed a Customer Complaint #792189 with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currancy, 1301 McKinney St., Suite 3450, Houston, TX 77010
