I check my bank account on a regular basis. This morning I noticed a charge in my pending transactions for $22.00 taken out by TWX Magazine O. I had no idea who this is or what it is or how they even got my account number.
I called my bank and they gave me their phone number (800) 607-9869. The bank told me to call them and have them fax over on letter head for the request to be cancelled since it would be on reserve (pending) until 6/26/08.
I called the number listed above and found that it all voice automated and we all know how annoying they are. I think it frustrates you more than what you already are and confirms that you have been literally screwed, because there is nothing you can do!
So I googled TWX Magazine and stumbled across 56 complaints against this consumer. I was happy to find that someone had information as to how to get a live person regarding my inquiry. He told me or to whoever reads his post that if you keep hitting the # on your phone after many tries it will eventually put you in touch with a LIVE human being.
After you get a live human being unfortunately they are not very helpful. They can't even tell you who gave them my account information or what magazine I supposedly ordred. All they could tell me was the month and the year I supposedly placed my order for this magazine.
So I did tell them what my bank told me to ask them about them faxing over a request to cancel the payment on letter head with my full card number, the amount and a signature from their company since it is still pending my account til 6/26. The person on the phone told me that they do NOT have letterheads nor the capacity to fax something.
My automatic response, was well what kind of business doesn't have letter head nor a fax machine? They took offense and told me that they do not have to have a letter head or a fax to do their business. Then I snapped back that they just withdraw money from people's account without there permission.
They then told me that my account was cancelled and that I should see the credit back to my account within 72-96 hours after cancellation.
Everytime anyone ever calls me about magazines I just tell them straight off that I am not interested and hang up. I recently bought something off an infomercial and that is the only way that they could have gotten my information. Even when a second party asks me about something in addition to my original order I always cancel for THIS reason alone. But some how they got my information anyways... So what do you do?
It seems that no matter what you do to protect yourselves from people and companies like this you still get screwed in the end!
