As many of the other postings regarding this inspiration of a man, Larry Hahn, I'm writing because of the utter lack of regard for people that those involved with this kind of company display. The listing on hotjobs.com simply says: "general office assistant needed." Upon calling you are greeted by a very excited individual who sets up an appointment for you, assuring you that they require no experience and that the interview is a very short meet and greet.
At the interview you are never asked for a resume or for qualifications and are never exactly told what the company does, instead you are told that this preliminary interview is only so that she (in this case Heather) can put a face to the name becase "that says so much more than a piece of paper." You are then told to call back at 4:00 P.M. That same day so that she can inform you whether you would be invited back for the second interview, which she cannot do at this time because she still has other individuals to meet with.
You call back at 4 o'clock and are invited to return for the second interview, and to bring only a notebook and "dress sharp."
Upon arriving for the second interview you realize that you are not the only person there, there are in fact numerous people there, who are just as confused as you are because they were also not given any specifics on the information of the company, but nonetheless you and the others remain intrigued.
Once you get inside there is a small presentation area set up and Curtis comes out to meet everyone.in short there is a long winded presentation about how wonderful Larry Hahn is, how Curtis is from a small town near Fresno, CA, how Heather is from North Carolina, and how you will be trained to be the manager of your very own office, in which you will be taken shopping to choose all the new furniture for your office.
You ar then given a background check application where he makes sure to tell you to cross out the part asking you to pay a fee as well as the section asking for bank account information and credit information.
Next you wait and he calls you into his office (which is plastered with basketball and car posters) in pairs to ask if you are interested in the position. I had agreed to return for the "training" for this coming Monday but am much more skeptical now.
Meanwhile hip-hop and rap music is blaring in the other room as it was when you first walked in (complete with profane and suggestive lyrics).
The entire presentation is made using foul language, and many jokes, he spends a good 15 minutes making negative ramarks about college, and doesn't allow rooms for any questions.
Even though I continued to be hopeful and interested the whole thing seemed somewhat strange to me so I came home to do my research on Larry Hahn, and this was the first website to return a search query.
This whole thing is really disheartening because they prey on people's need to find work. They make sure to tell you there will be no fees and no telemarketing, but never tell you a specfic pay structure or how the company actually works. With all that in mind my main motivation for participating in adding to some general knowledge about this whole scam is that during my "group interview" there was a young man who was beaming with excitement because his wife/girlfriend had given birth to a baby girl that very morning, 2 hours prior to the interview... And that breaks my heart, because throughout the entire presentation Curtis kept referring to this young man, building up his confidence that if he were to take the position he could easily afford to care for his new family. I hope that anyone else who was there today and in days to come will do as I did and research a little bit before going back and becoming a part of this elaborate disaster.
