When I considered buying an upgrade camera, Ichecked the camera model and found a site "lowpricedigital.com". One of their certified vendors was 86th St. Photo and Video. When I accessed 86photovideo.com, they offered my item at nearly half what some other sites were offering.
I have sent lowpricedigital the same message I am posting here now.in my recent experience 86th St Photo Video is a complete rip off to those who will not consent to purchase the additional accessories they want to bundle with their "Bargains".
When I called 86th St Photo and was placing an order for ONLY the item I wanted, the sales rep told me he was going to check the availability of the item I wanted but, instead, switched me to a recording that stated I was calling outside their store hours and should call back when they were open. Since they were still offering the same price on the internet, I placed my order via the internet.
A couple of days later, I received an email stating I would have to call them about my order. When I called the number, the company rep at the extension I called again tried to get me to order overpriced accessories like batteries and memory cards all of which I already had because of my other camera equipment. When I told him I was only interested in the camera, he told me fine and that I was getting a great deal.
When we hung up, an email immediately appeared in my in box stating We regret to inform you that, unfortunately the item you ordered is on a current 2-3 week backorder, we have not billed your credit card and we will notify you when tracking number is available.
I waited about a week and checked my account on their website only to find that I had no items on order and there was no place to check by order number. Today when I called both their numbers 800-815-2040 and 347-289-8971, I finally got through after 1PM Eastern Time (I guess they take lunch between noon and one).
When I asked for ext 207, the fellow answering asked me for my order number. When I gave it to him, he stated he would transfer me to the right extension. Upon transfer there was a message telling me I had an anticipated wait of 18 minutes. A few minutes later, the message said there would be an 8 minute wait.
A couple of minutes later, a woman answered the line and asked for my order number. She confirmed my first name and stated the item would be on back order for two to three weeks. When I told her their web site stated the item was in stock, she said they were in the process of updating the web information.
This internet vendor has posted several prices on their store site of 86photovideo.com. I order at $259. After they sent the email my order was delayed, the price jumped to $331. Today the price for available in stock item is $249.
Knowing I would never be able to purchase this item from 86photovideo without buying their rechargeable battery set at $119 when I can buy the same at $30 or a SD memory card at over $100 for 2GB when I purchased a 4GB card with my first SDHC camera at $44.
I knew this offer was too good to be true but, when I checked the web for comments about 86photovideo, I saw some good comments about ordering from them. My guess the customers bought their auxiliary items. I am glad I canceled this order officially, though I am sure they already had and I would never have taken delivery of the ordered item. Now I am free to order elsewhere.
