Will Metz has several rental homes on Wold rd in Laurel Montana one of which we leased for 1 year. It is a manufactured home that sits on a couple of acres. It was liveable but not great. It was decent enough that we paid $950 per month (we were desperate at the time, really) Through out lease we were told by our neighbors what a "A*" this Will Metz guy is. We just wrote it off and did not really pay any attention. However the water was terrible at this home and we went into the town of Laurel to look into purchasing or renting/leasing a water purifing system. The person who I spoke with and was telling her abouto our water situation asked who we rented from and she stoped me right then and there and said that she was sorry but she will not do any business that has to do with Will Metz. We both had a good chuckle and that was that. Turns out she was serious. Did not get into to much detail but really that was it, no ifs ands or buts.
Our water worsend and worsend to the point that there was dirt/sand coming out of our water faucets. And several times our water completley turned off resulting in me being home with 2 small children with NO water and him getting someone out there to fix it when it was convenient for him. Our water got so bad that you did not know if you smelt worse before taking a shower or after you got out. WIth all of the dirt and iron in the water I could not bath my children in this water so had to buy water from the montana valley water store there in laurel.
We could not take it any more the stench of the water, the dirt in the water and the water turning off (its a well) so we decided to start looking for another place and gave about 60 days notice after our lease was up. This was a courtesy to him. We found another home and busted our A*'s to get this home cleaned so that he could get someone right into it after we moved if he was able to find someone right away that he could rip off.
I did not hear anything from him about getting our deposit back (even left a forwarding address) so I called him and he was like I mailed it and I asked him when and how much we were getting back he replied "I think $350" and it was mailed on Monday (which I talked to him on Tuesday)
I finally got something from him on Nov. 2nd and it was a check for $270 (out of our $1000) deposit. I tried calling him numerous times and finally was able to get ahold of them. I did and asked him what the deal was and he said that we left trash behind the shed and that the toilets, sinks and tubs had rust stains on them! (mind you he was having a totall attitude with me)
He said that the trash that was left there was infact the trash that was there when we moved in and that we said that we would take it to the dump, we NEVER said that we would do that! And also we scrubbed the rust and did the best that we could with it. Mind you this is a cheap modular home with plastic sinks and tubs. The rust mostly came out but you could still see it.
There was rust in the sinks, tubs, dishwasher, toilets and washer and it clearly states that in the conditions report that we filled out at the begining of the lease.
I continuted to call him and his little girlfriend (nicole) to find out what the deal was with only getting $270 back. And told them that by law they have to give us a chance to clean or repair anything that seems to be not to their liking before they can take it from out deposit. They did not notify us.
We also had 30 days to get our deposit back and (moved out September 16th we could have stayed until the 1st) and did not receive ANYTHING from him including a phone call letter or ANYTHING (he had forwarding address) and I brought this to their attention and he said that he does not have to do anything. We would have gladly cleaned or fixed anything that was wrong. If they would have notified us that there was a issue. We have NEVER once had a issue with anyo of our landlords.
Will Metz had the nerve to Keep $730 of our deposit because he said that there was rust in the sinks, toilets, tubs, dishwasher and washer. There is nothign that I can do because I now live in Washington. The only thing that I can do now is make people aware of this man and his antics to try to let people know how he works. One woman that moved into his other rental had 2 children and she had to move out 6 months later because he would not repair things like the door not closing, and the heater not working.
This looser (in my opinion) charged us for re cleaning the tubs sinks and toilets and also for taking the trash that WILL METZ left at the home that NEVER once did we say that we would do something with.
Please be aware of Will Metz and his little Girlfriend Nicole for they seem nice and great until it comes down to the almighty dollar. I mean really I am in the wrong business if he can charge $730 for trying to get rust out of 2 toilets 2 tubs, 4 sinks a dishwasher and dryer.
