This company recruits sales people to sell fire safety equipment with the promise of a $1,000.00 per week salary. As a condition of hire, trainees MUST first have a fire safety system installed in their home. This system costs about $2,000.00.
Safety Sense "hires" reps as Independent Contractors. Among other violations, making any such requirement of an independent contractor is against federal and state law. Tax purposes state there is no withholdings and a rep is paid on a 1099 basis. If there is a $1,000.00 / week salary then there should not be a minimum number of units sold on commission.
I believe this comapany is using this installation requirement as a source of income. This is called a "churn 'em and burn 'em" way of doing business. "Hire" 10 reps today... They sell themselves and maybe one more. Most reps quit after promises are not fulfilled. The company doesn't care because they will just "hire" 10 more next week and do the same thing.
I do not want to see this continue. Please, if you have had an association as as a sales rep or appointment setter, respond to this posting. Together, we can put a stop to this activity. There is strength in numbers. There may be a way to get your money back for the system you were required to purchase or to cancel the contract that a family member or you signed with the financing company.
Respond to this posting, let's do this together. Thanks for letting me rant.
