Bruce Owens owns and runs great lake investment. He owns a few houses near northwood university. These houses have less than permissable living conditions even for college students. He bought these houses two years ago and promissed he would fix them up to code before anyone moved in. All of the tenants took it in blind faith that he would and signed year leases.
Let me remind you that these people moving in are 18 or so year old kids right out of the nest so to speak so none of them really knew what to do about it. There is an insect infestation problem, holes in most walls, messes of wires, leaking pipes, filthy or no carpet, hardly any locks on the doors. You get the picture.
According to the lease you have to pay $50 lock fee, $200 cleaning fee each tenant (yet none of this gets done), plus your deposit. He has "lost" rent on many occasions, pocketed water bill money, charged tenents and had laywer interaction with tenents charging them with things they didnt do, supposedly to pay his lawyer fee when the city brought him to court because of the unsanitary and eyesore conditions of these houses. Some of the money he pocketed went to bail his son out of jail.
The new tenants of one of these houses just told me that they signed the lease and paid as of june 1 but were not allowed to move in till june 15, between 8 guys that is over $1000 lost money. These are just a very few of the problems surrounding Bruce Owens help before he rips anyone else off.
