As a resident of Hunt Club Apartments, my daughter paid premium rent for a tiny two bedroom apartment in Montgomery County. Last summer, then 6 months pregnant, she suffered through record-breaking heat with a broken air conditioner, lived with piles of laundry when the clothes dryer stopped running, and shouldered the day-to-day anxiety of fires and gang activity in this poorly lit, poorly run apartment complex.
All the while, she paid the rent on time each month, over $12,000 for the "privelege." Charisse and others in the office and on the maintenance staff gave repeated excuses - "no parts to fix the appliances", "no money to add lighting to the parking area", even as the police activity continued.
My daughter provided timely notice to Charisse that she was moving out on or before September 30, the end of her lease term. The movers came Friday, September 29. She left the keys on the counter that evening. End of Story? No.
On October 11, she received a bill for "delinquent rent" for October 1st and 2nd ($72.60), plus a fee of $20.00 proportedly a charge for going month-to-month on her lease! I spoke with Charisse about these additional $92.60 in charges. No surprise, she was unprofessional and ill-mannered on the telephone. She refused to exercise discretion in waiving these unnecessary and unfair charges, and made no appologies for the delay in repairs and poor service during the time my daughter rented there.
