Ripoff phone scam fraudulent billing network of false companies

It begins with harrassing phone calls from (727) 541-0001. (There are hundreds of online complaints about this number, just google it.) Most of the time the caller hangs up, but eventually, I answered it in time. The caller knew my name and address, as well as at least the last four digits of my credit card number. I didn't agree to anything, but authorized him to send me a hard copy of his offer by mail.

Then came the mailings from companies mentioned by the caller. They all say that "The Membership you requested is enclosed." Before I ever opened these, my credit card was charged $1 for each of these memberships.

I called my credit card company to stop this, and I was unsuccessful.

This month my card was charged:
$1 by Savings2Go 800-448-1944.
$1 by LeisurePlus 888-527-2589
$24.95 by American Family Health 800-295-0562.

I called my credit card company again and reported the card stolen. I have not used the card in over a month, and yet the automated account summary listed a higher balance than my statement shows (in other words there are more charges that I haven't seen yet).

After calling to report my card stolen, I called each of the 800 numbers listed on my statement to "cancel" my memberships, and ask for a refund. I told each of them that the charges they made to my card were unauthorized. One of them told me that I signed up for their program with a magazine subscription, which is not possible.

Another told me that I wouldn't have been charged if I had canceled this subscription in September when I canceled the "Direct Discount Club" membership. -So obviously they are related organizations. He referenced the date and time of my call to Direct Discount back in September. (This info was accurate, I checked my phone bill.)

I told the operator at American Family Health that I expected a refund. He said my card would be credited. I told him I canceled the card. He said he would send a check.

There are other auto-dialing 800 numbers involved. I have already filed a complaint with the FCC. They won't do anything until they receive 1,000 complaints.

There are other addresses involved that I did not include in this report, the address I did include is for Direct Discount Club. I have saved all of the mailings if the other addresses are useful.
