College Hill Apartments had RIPPED ME off for years. Let me start at the begining and move along...
In febuary 1998, I was so excited about moving into my first apartment with my young daughter. Granted it was rent controlled, but I didn't mind. For the first several months I noticed little items would go missing. Since I had a 3 year old, I just firgured she was hiding things on me. I was sadly mistaken. Should have figured it out when $700 bucks came up missing... Anywho...
In August of '98, I was in the shower while my child sat in the lvingroom watching her favorite cartoon. The shower curtain was clear so I could see when she came in to get me. I was just rinsing soap out of my hair when I opened my eyes to see "D", the only maintance and security man for the whole complex in MY bathroom staring at me!!! Now my door was LOCKED, my child was still watching cartoons, and no one made a sound except for me screaming bloody murder upon seeing him standing there.
My mother forced me to move right away fearing for the worst. My rent was paid until the end of the month. I had never been late on rent, nor was I a trouble maker... infact this apartment complex has a rep for being one of the worst in Ohio. That same weekend I moved into a new complex named Tanglewood (BTW I loved this place.) On Monday, my mom and I went to pack up the rest of my stuff and clean my apartment. MY LOCKS HAD BEEN CHANGED!!! They would not allow me time to remove my stuff nor clean my apartment. I was NOT even allowed to get my mail!
They claimed it was because my boyfriend was living with me. A total lie. He wasn't living with me. He lived with his parents. I know because I drove 2 times a day 40 mins plus to pick him up and drop him off. Then they made up a story about my switching the electric out of my name and into thiers... Another LIE!
They charged me clean up fees, and said I had destoyed the apartment. Yet, ANOTHER LIE!!! I didn't get to take pictures of the place since they changed my locks but I can tell you this... I know I did not punch holes in my wall, nor did I ripe doors off the hinges, nor did I bust the inside of a refrigerator. I never had ANY pets but yet somehow I managed to get charged for having one. All together they charged me over $300 plus dollars which I REFUSE to pay. They stated they had to carry out 30 bags of trash... And THAT I agree with but it wasn't trash it was my personal belongings which they had stopped me from getting. I sure hope the person who got my jewelry box LOVES my daughters ring, earrings, and my grandmother's necklace.
Interestingly enough, upon moving out of the new apartment at Tanglewood after finishing my lease and never having but one minor leaking problem (they fixed it right away). I recieved a letter thanking me for being a model tenat from Tanglewood Apts. I have rented many apartments since this all came to pass. I have always recieved back my FULL deposit. Never been late on rent. And always gotten good references (only thing saving my credit right now are these references),
I beg you, if you are thinking about renting from COLLEGE HILL APARTMENTS IN BATAVIA, OHIO DO NOT DO IT! They are liars, scam artist, and molesters. I have never felt safe in the shower ever since "D" walked in. Amazingly, even after complaining and reporting him to the police, he STILL works for the company. WOW, since his sister is the property manager I am sure she destroyed anything I complained about.
