Following is a list of things that Benton County Jail advertises on their website that they deprive their inmates of (whether proven guilty or still presumed innocent):
Hot Meals (ceareal and bologna sandwiches)
Milk (Isn't this a basic food group?)
Deodorant (Can you imagine the smell?)
Toothbrushes (Hygiene is obviously of no concern)
Hair Cuts (Fine for women if they could brush it)
TV (world won't end, but against federal laws)
Radio (No argument)
Cigarettes (No argument)
Chewing Tobacco (No Argument)
Weightlifting Equipment (No argument)
Magazines (not even Reader's Digest)
Coffee (Any reason why?)
Tea (Again... Any reason why? It's cheap!)
Razors (Not even supervised. Oh, who cares about hygiene)
Commissary (No argument)
Soft Drinks (No argument)
What they don't mention is medications. Got a headache? Put in a request in for the nurse. Within the next month, she will see you and consider giving you a tylenol. Previous doctor prescribe you medications for emphysema? Better hope you can prove your innocence soon or you will die because the county won't spend the money on your meds!!! Inmates have died from lack of medical treatment. Females... That time of the month? Put in a request for the nurse. Within the next month, she will see you, but you probably won't need a tampon by then. Also, you might as well chop all of your hair off when you get out because your not allowed to brush it when your inside. The rats nests will be impossible to get out if your in there long... And your court date could be almost a year away.
