My husband recieved a telemarketing call from supposedly two different companies. Both offered free trials of their services, which my husband accepted.
In their packages we recieved was a "cancel by" date, the phone number to call, and an email address for cancellations.
I emailed both email address for a cancellation. "Distinct Advantage" did not charge anything, however, Freedom Gold charged $149.00.
I called and was told that their refund process took a lot of time and I should go to my bank and tell them I had a disputed charge. The bank told me I had to go through the company's refund policy first.
So I called again. This time I was told I would be issued a check and recieve it in 7 - 10 business days. I in turn told them this was unnacceptable, as the utility checks I had already written were no going to bounce. Of course, they argued and I demanded to speak to a suprevisor.
The suprevisor told me they could not do electronic drafts. I told her this was ridiculous since they had no problem electronically stealing my money, therefore they should have no problem electronically giving it back to me.
The arguing didn't seem to get anywhere, so I accepted a check being mailed to me in 7-10 days. This was the Monday after Thanksgiving of 2005 we spoke. It is now January 11th with no check and their website unsurprisingly "under maintenance" for the past few days.
Buyers beware. Oh. The reason I say "supposedly" two different companies is because the website gave you a choice of which company you wanted to access, and my "member id" and "group id" were identical.
