Ripoff timeshare resale scam

As a former employee of the company I would like to disclose what actually happens there. Companies such as this that claim to advertise your timeshare for sale or rent are almost always SCAMS. Here's how it works. They set up a boiler room operation full of drug addicts and alcoholic telemarketers that will tell you anything to make a commission for a fast buck. At Share Trader that commission just happens to be 50%. Yep, that means that half of whatever they charge you goes right into the telemarketers pocket. They have no set fee schedule. Whatever the particular telemarketer thinks you can pay he will try and charge you for this so called "advertising".

Typical amounts range anywhere from $249-$1200. As I said, it's the telemarketers call. They tell you that they have the best advertising program in the business and that they specialize in (insert your timeshare resort here) resorts and that they "GET THE JOB DONE". This is all BS as is 98% of everthing that they claim. What actually happens is this. They charge your credit card for the agreed upon amount and then have some scmuck post it on their website along with thousands of other poor souls such as yourself who have fallen victim to this scam. There is no personal attention given to any customer. Everyone gets their own little ad on the website and that's it.

They sometimes run ads in very obscure newspapers in very obscure areas of the country for others to "sell their timeshares". Obviously this form of advertising does absolutely nothing to help sell yours. So you get your little ad that you probably paid something like $698 for and there it sits on their obscure website with no one looking at it. The comapany has to sell/rent only a few per year to stay in compliance legally which means that they may sell/rent 1 out of 1000 tmeshares advertised on their site.

The bottom line is: for anyone looking to sell their timeshare, their is no resale market for them. Unless you are willing to basically give it away, you won't sell it. Look at the ones being advertised on ebay for a reality check and to verify what i'm saying.

If you have read this and already paid to advertise I would advise that you call your credit card company and explain what happened and request a credit. This is called a "chargeback" in the business and a company can only have so many of these without jeapodising their merchant account with the credit card companies so if you complain enough chances are you WILL get your money refunded. Calling customer service at Share Trader will just get you the standard excuse. "We have had some alot of inquiries about your unit but nothing firm yet. We suggest you lower your sale price "This will go on FOREVER...
