AIU Online
Judgmental and Belittling

I was recently contacted by AIU online. I went through the initial interview and then the 2nd interview (It lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes, he called 40 minutes earlier than our scheduled appointment time, which happened to be right at dinner time) in which they try to get to know you well enough to "see if you would be a good candidate for their school". I went through the interview and then was put on hold for a few minutes and told to write down why I felt I should be accepted to AIU online. When he came back on the phone and told me he would give me his recommendation. I received an email the following day stating that I had to get a bunch of information faxed to him three hours prior to the originally stated time I had to have my entrance essay submitted for the acceptance committee meeting to review my application.

When I decided that I wanted to withdrawal my application I emailed the recruiter and stated that I wanted to withdrawal my application. About an hour later another AIU representative phoned me and proceeded to tell me that I must not want my degree bad enough because I didn't have the $50.00 application fee until next week. She went on to question if I had a spouse that worked. When I answered yes, she stated "well surely you must have the $50 in a checking account". When I told her no she further stated that a student who really wanted a degree would do anything and everything they had to do to get their degree process moving. She even went so fat to say that I should borrow from family or friends if it was something I really wanted.

I'm sorry but when the sum of $30,000 is going to be spent, education or not, I need to think things through thoroughly and discuss them with my husband. To assume that I must not want my degree because I didn't want to give them my credit card number over the phone right that second was degrading. The recruiters for AIU are far too pushy. They don't know everyone's financial situation and shouldn't try to presume that they do.
