A young man came to our door last night (08/11). We live in a wealthier, highly educated part of Virginia's DC suburbs, so solicitors are not common. He lied his way to get into our house and tricked our very gullible daughter into writing him a check for a magazine subscription that would go to poor children in Maryland. We were not home at the time. I have stopped payment on her check, but she has learned a lesson the hard way. They ripped her off of a half day's wages. The boy flat out lied and said he lived in the neighborhood, but he was home schooled. I tried to call and get his name, but was unsuccessful, as he just signed the form "Scottie". I have looked in our neighborhood directory, but there is no Scottie listed as a parent or child. Also note the $9.00 processing fee. I would have not let him in and sent him packing, my daughter is just now learning about rip-off artists. Beware!
