In February of I spoke with my financial aid officer Kristen Linquist, whom stated to me that I was receiving a refund from them in the amount of about $1,700. I stated to her that I didn't want the money if I still was going to owe the school, she said no I was all set (I have all this in an email).
After about two months of not receiving my degree in the mail, I called financial aid and they stated to me that I owed $892.00. I then emailed my academic advisor (who is wonderful) and told her what was going on. I stated that it is absolutely ridiculous that I should owe this money when they sent me a check earlier in the year. She stated to me that Kaplan is supposed to send out any monies owed to me no matter what future charges may accrue. She told me she would get a hold of financial aid and get back to me.
As of today May, 25, I have emailed my academic advisor and still no word. They are holding my degree back until I pay this off. I don't have the money right now because I have other financial obligations that is tying up my money. I also don't think that I should have to pay this money.
I want to go to another school but I can't until I get my official degree and transfer credits.
The communication from this school is very frustrating and the degree is a joke. I "graduated" with a B.A.in CJ with my focus on Forensics. That's great however, in order for me to move onto my Masters degree I need about two more years of classes that require me to work in a lab! Online degrees are a joke and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!
