I am in the midst of a career change & I am going to flight school full time. As a result of a transplant operation, I have medical debt which has given me a poor credit rating.
In desperate need of a loan to keep me afloat until I get my instructor's position, I applied to many loan companies. I received a call from Edward Keller at Ameritrust Investments informing me that that had a private investor willing to loan me the money.
I was told that I needed to pay the first 4 monthly payments in advance due to my credit rating. A red flag went up in my mind but I was desperate & paid $957.00 via a Moneygram. One day later I received another call from Gary Phazer at Ameritrust saying that I needed to pay for the insurance option in addition to my previous payment.
I argued with him that I should only have to pay the difference between the 2 options, but to no avail. Again, I was leary but proceeded to pay due to my desperate situation. This 2nd payment was in the amount of $1093.56, bringing the grand total to $2117.52.
I was told that the money would be deposited directly into my account within 2-3 business days. I questioned how this would happen because I gave them no banking information. I was told their accounting department would work it out with me & to expect a call from them. The call never came.
After repeated calls & messages that were never returned, I finally spoke to customer service & was told that the investor backed out & I would receive a refund within 10-15 days. That was on June 14th.
Now they have blocked my phone number & I doubt I will see that money again. Now I have had to quit school & go back to work full time to make ends meet & replace that stolen money.
I am so angry with myself as well. I am a well educated, intelligent person who was leary about the whole thing from the start. I didn't do my research & I was so desperate that I was quick to accept their terms. Unfortunately for them I am a VERY vengeful person, at least in this case. I am in the process of collecting personal info on these people (address, DMV info, family info, etc)& will take action myself if necessary. If anyone has info regarding such matters please post it
