I am a 69 year old female. I am visually impaired. I have received two calls from US Grants Interactive telling me that I am eligible to receive a grant. Both calls sounded like they came from an Indian ma.
When I got the first call, I was so incensed that someone would try to get my bank account information that I told him off and hung up. I immediately called the Governor's office of consumer affairs. I was told that someone from that office would call me the next day. No call from them.
The second call came today and I played along. I told the man that I was particially blind and an old woman thinking I could find out more from him by getting his sympathy. (I am both) Didn't faze him a bit. He said all the more reason for me to give him the information because, being visually impaired, I could realy use the money. I was able to get the following information from him:
Callers name (probably fake): Shane Bond
Company name: US Grants Interactive
web address: www.usgrantsinteractive.com
Assurance that they were not scamming: "We are Federally recorded and verification." (direct quote).
Though I repeatedly asked for the address of the company, he would not give it.
Telephone #: 1 800 598-3074 (not able to verify #:
Telephone rep became hostile and argumentative when I wouldn't give out my bank account number.
