Today, the 10th of May, I received a phone call from a supposed "Nathan Smith." He was calling to let me know that I was one of 6,000 people selected to receive a grant of between $5,000.00 and $12,500.00. The legislature passed these grants for the benefit of those in the lower income bracket in the southwest region of MO. It would be tax free and no paying back, it was to be mine straight up. I was leary but very persistant in asking him to repeat himself numerous times, and had many questions that he answered very well and convincing.in 2-3 days I would recieve a Welcome package that would include the necessary legal documents, and $100.00 that I could use in any way that I deem necessary. To cover the cost of the package, $29.95 would be debited from my account in 2-3 days. Then once I filled out and mailed the package back, they would within 5 days deposit the grant into my account less $299.95 for Tsunamu relief. I rcvd. A Customer Service Number and ID # and then our conversation was over until I was supposed to call and let them know that I had rcvd. The deposit.
Well, after I got off the phone I tried to call the # and got nothing. Then another time it was of course after business hours. I was then getting that sick feeling in my stomach and looked it up on the internet and there found confirmation. I called my bank and got there to close my account just as an odd transaction was going through.
Thanks Usa Consumer Complaints.com, you saved me from a total scam. These people are lying cheaters. Here's a hint for others, if you get a phone call from a very obvious foreigner that gives you a very American name like Nathan Smith, hang up the phone! I should have!
