Tiger Direct is ripping off U.S. Armed Forces Personnel and families ordering for delivery to overseas APOs and FPOs by charging overnight air express rates to ship via Unites States Postal Service First Class/Priority Mail.
Examples: $175 to mail one desktop PC (shipping weight 20 lbs.) and printer (15 lbs.) when USPS to APO/FPOs comes to $50 and UPS in the continental US (CONUS) comes to $40; $62-$70 to mail a 19-inch LCD monitor when the USPS charges $25; $12.50 to mail an SD flash memory card weighing a couple of ounces when the USPS charges under $2.
Contacted Tiger Direct and was told that is the way it is, take it or leave it. Tiger Direct preys on customers at APOs and FPOs by sending enticing offers via electronic mail advertising low prices via rebates that must be postmarked within 30 days of the invoice date. This makes it nearly impossible to take advantage of their offers without paying the "toll" for the high shipping fees, which frequently cancel the savings. The alternative would be to have the parcel ship to a CONUS address and ask for the favor to mail forward via the USPS at the true rate. This would come close to taking up to and over the 30 days - failing to qualify for the rebate discount.
Add insult to injury because a customer orders items at the full price and has to try recovering the savings from the company sponsoring the rebate. Great deal for Tiger Direct that sold the item at the retail price and charged premium shipping fees.
I would like to encourage rivals of Tiger Direct to compete for the military customers/sales, and in so doing profit from non-military customers as well.
Interestingly, the U.S. Military is dying in parts of the world to defend the American Way of Life at wages that are not worth dying for so the likes of Tiger Direct can grow and prosper through rebate scams and extorting speculatively high shipping fees from those they should be caring for the most.
