Awful Experience with Drs. Foster and Smith

I'm still in shock from my encounter with Drs. Foster and Smith, the catalog/internet pet supply company headquartered in Wisconsin.

I ordered an $80.00 pet pen for my daughter's cat, to help her out because she needs to temporarily isolate the cat from the others for medical reasons. Believe me, $80 is a lot of money to me right now, but she is even poorer than me these days.

So I was very excited when I got the email from UPS that my package had been delivered at the front door. Funny, I thought, I didn't hear the doorbell ring. So I went out to the front door, and no package. I went back to the email and re-read it. It was delivered to my old address, now vacant, in Maryland. Problem is, I've been living in California for the past six months.

My recollection is that I gave the company the Maryland address for billing (since my bank has not been updated with my new address) and gave them my California address for shipping. I'm not sure who's mistake it was, but I certainly didn't expect the response I got from the company when I explained the problem and asked them to pickup and return or redeliver the package.

They said, in an email, that I told them to ship it to Maryland and that's where they shipped it, and they can prove it, and thank you, and have a nice day. They won't even authorize UPS to pick up the package even though I explained that I'm on the other side of the continent and I can't return it myself, and it's sitting on the porch of a vacant house.

So then I called UPS and explained that they delivered the package to a vacant house, and can they pick it up and return it to the company because I'm on the other side of the country. No, they said, because there is no authorization, and they need to have somebody home anyway. They can't just take a package off a porch of a vacant house.

So then I called my 79 year old father and asked him to make the hour's drive and pick up the package from the vacant house (if it hasn't been stolen; it's kind of a sketchy neighborhood). I will then pay him to return the package via the post office.

Jeesh. Amazon would have never responded like that. Next time, I'm buying from Amazon or anyone BUT Drs. Foster and Smith. I don't care if I have to pay double.
