I was contacted via telephone at my home on 26 June stating that they were from Microsoft, and that someone had been hacking into my home computer for the last five days. HIndisght being the fine thing it is, I should have just hung up the phone then, but I didn't. I allowed these horrible people into my computer to do their "thing". Quite impressive the program they run to make you think that there has been unauthorised activity on your computer. Very elaborate hoax. They spent maybe 40 minutes doing "checks". I actually asked them about the Trend Micro protector we have, and was told that it was only anti-virus, and not anti-hacking, which is an absolute lie. I was asked for payment to do them again quarterly, for the next two years, at $300. I chose the 1 year $200 option. After I got off the phone I googled the name Global Connect Cloud, and found out they were a scam company. I rang my bank immediately, who stopped the payment and my credit card account. The bank were very sympathetic about it, said this was a known company, and they would persue it to return the funds. I then turned off all computers, pulled plugs from the wall and telephone cables out, so there was no way they could access anything.in a very bold move, Global actually rang me for the next two days, saying their server was down, and that the payment had not gone through, and could they have another credit card number to use! They have tried calling again on other occassions since, but as soon as I hear where they are from, I hang up on them. I actually felt physically ill from this scam and that I fell for it. Turns out I am not alone, but I really don't know how these people sleep at night doing this. And how many people are out there who have been caught and don't even know it.
