BBB Seattle Renton 7/10

On the 4th of July my husband and I were shopping for new used car and about 4PM we pull to Sunset Cars of Renton located at 330 Sunset Blvd N, Renton, WA 98057. The appearance and attitude of the staff was far from professional, but we spotted silver color BMW SUV X5 – a car what we need. After short time of conversation we took the car for test drive. The test drive of the silver BMW SUV meets our expectation, so we told salesman that we would like to see the Car Fax for this vehicle and perhaps negotiate the price. The salesman told us that they do not have access to printed Car Fax report, but the owner of the dealership may scan the vehicle VIN number and we may be able to see the report on his cellphone. The owner Mr. Blake Anderson scanned the VIN number and showed us on his cellphone Car Fax report, consider very small size of his cellphone screen we were not able to examine the report, but both salesman and owner get very excited and both of them reaped several times “clean title”. We carelessly disregarded the fact that the dealer were unable to present the Car Fax in printed form and my husband started negotiating price for the silver color BMW SUV X5 – 2001. Due to hot weather I stay outside the building most of the time, and joyed the negotiation in final stage. Mr. Blake Anderson and both of us agree to pay $6,500.00 the silver BMW X5 – 2001 and the owner will replace two tiers. We seat outside the building waiting for the paperwork to be done when the salesman come and told us that the owner reconsider agreement and increase price to $6,900.00. After brief conversation we agree to $6,650.00. Salesman left and few minutes later returned with the owner and the bell, they told us that this is their tradition to ring the bell any time car is sold – so we did.
We were seating outside the building waiting for papers to sign when the salesman come and asked if know that they have one more BMW SUV, one year younger and 20K lower mileage and handle us the car keys convincing to go for test drive. We told him that we decided to purchase silver BMW and are not interested in another car. Finely we get in the car for short drive. He gives us the keys and told us to go for ride, but last second he jumps in. We noticed that the car is in dangerously bad condition, do not have alignment, (the car go on right direction), the warning to signal brake broken, ABS signal broken, transmit ion was on, the gas pedal was not responding and the car was driving 20 M/H, also the power steering was not working and was difficultly to turn the car, so we returned to a dealership parking ASAP.
We continue to seat in the front of the building and wait for paperwork to be done, when the salesman come again and told us because we take the drive test on the second white car we need purchase this white car and now the price for the first silver car is $7,999.00. If we want the silver car he will negotiate the deal for us. Our respond was that the negotiation is done and we are waiting for paperwork to sign and take the SILVER SUV home... He replies $6500 this is for the white BMW; the agreement for the silver BMW is cancelled. We insisted that we want the silver BMW and we did not want the white car for free because the white car is in very poor condition and asked where Mr. Anderson is, we were told that he went home. The salesman was kind of confused, so we followed him to financial booth and request explanation. The employee told us that this is a final decision made by the owner and he is not going to sale the silver car to us; we may buy the white BMW SUV. We were denied contact with the owner, but gracefully were able to get a business card.
On the way home I place message on Mr. Anderson cellphone expressing my disappointment and requesting explanation.
Since I did not here from Mr. Anderson or dealership, I called again on Friday. Mr. Anderson was very unpleasant and told me that my husband cancelled the deal on silver BMW, not him. When I told him that is not thru, he reply that he is 33 years old successful in his business and remember what happen. I asked what he means – that we are old and lost our memories? His respond was that he does not care about people like us. Then I told him that this is very unprofessional and insolating and I will report this incident to BBB. Mr. Anderson gets very aggressive and told me: if you do that you will be very sorry, and I will never sale any cars to you. He goes on and on with threats, so I told him goodbye and ended conversation.
We would like BBB to investigate the Sunset Cars of Renton dealership sales practice to prevent similar situation to other customers. Also, since they have all our address information, my concern is if those threat were serous.
Thank you for your prompt action in this matter.
