I had a problem connecting to my router. I did a search for Belkin Router support and these guys come up - but they simply say Belkin Router Support. So I thought it was Belkin. I contacted them online and by phone. He said that he would have to log in to my PC. OK - it was with a recognized access.
He then went to the DOS box prompt - entered dir / s - this simply does a listing of all files on my harddrive. He said he was checking things on my router. 1st lie. The as the screen was streaming all sort of files then he entered a text string "network files corrupted error 4040 computer on risk"
2nd lie and total scam
He said oh no this means you have a virus. I said I use AVG on my PC. He said well this is probably a corrupt router, with a trojin virus and that was corrupting my system as we speak and has to be fixed. He could do that. He drew pictures on how the router is being corrupted. He said for $149 he could do it right now and fix my router connection too.
This didnt make sense to me.
I got out of doing this right away. He said dont use your Pc.
After I disconnected from that session - I saw what he was doing in the DOS shell. Total fabrication of that message - it is not real.
Watch out. These guys fabricate errors
