Consumer Report

So I recently got the iPhone 5 (feb) and hadn't connected it to my computer to try to put my music from my iTunes onto it. So last night (June 18th) I plugged my phone into my computer and it told me that I needed to restore it to my iPod. Which was not what I wanted but at the time I didn't realize this. So I ended up losing everything on my phone and making it look like my iPod. All my pictures contacts and some apps were gone. I was in a panic so I called apple for support to help me get my phone back to normal. I talked to this man for quite sometime as he tried to understand what had happened. He then told me that he would like to log onto my computer from his with the logmein123 website. He checked my computer and told me it was full of viruses and that I needed to purchase the anti virus software after paying the 49something just to speak with someone about fixing my phone. So I agreed to let him put the software onto my computer. I live on the west coast and so when I called it was approx 1030pm here. This man told me that it would only take about an hour to do this update. So I let him while I watched him work from my screen. He would talk to me through the instant messaging page. He told me that my computer was severely affected by viruses and that I would need to buy an external hard drive for about 150ish with 14.99 for shipping totaling about 165. At this point I asked him is that necessary. I never use this computer And didnt feel like I needed it. He then told me yes you need it. And the he said and I quote "you know what you have Been a really nice customer" so I thanked him. And said I just want my phone fixed and then he said "and as I was telling you since you have been really nice with me, let me send you an external hard drive for FREE after a rebate" so I asked how much it would cost. And he said "actually remember that is going to be for free, because we are going to send you your money back, but in order to take it from the warehouse we need to generate the transaction for 149.99." And then he said "but remember that we are going to give you your money back." I then asked again if I needed one and said I hardly ever use my computer and that it sits on a shelf. And that I am not familiar with computers so I wouldn't know what to do with a hard drive. He then tells me that I will lose all my important information when the computer crashes from the virus I supposedly have. So he pressured me into saying ok to ordering it. He then orders it.

Next he starts running the registry cleaner on my computer which will just take a few minutes... Which took over an hour. Then he reboots my computer and adds the antivirus software which will take about "two hours". I said to him well it is almost 1am here and I need to get some sleep. And he said "if you want to you can go to bed and I will keep working here." I said ok but that I needed my phone fixed by morning and he said "I am going to fix it today. Just let me run this antivirus software and then I will proceed" so that was at 1249am west coast time. And then at 419am he messages me asking if I was there and I responded right way because I could see that it still was not finished running the antivirus. So two hours turned into over 4and a half hours. And then he tells me "I was just looking at your profile in advance this is completely different from the original issue. And I just want you to know this since you already got our antivirus and registry cleaner" so I said what is the issue then? He responds "once I am done with with antivirus I will be able to tell you! But I just want you to know this there are some really useful products that we can offer you with full rebate. And I said no thank you. And he then said "you are welcome. We just have to wait Katie." And I said I just want my phone fixed. And he said it will be right before the scan finishes. And at this point it was at 99%completed. And at 433 I responded ok. And he didnt respond again and the scan finished and he signed off at 504am and never came back to help me finish my phone.

I waited quite a few minutes for him to return and he never did. So I called the number back and got on the phone with a man named tony. I explained what happened and how he just shut everything down and didnt finish helping me. So tony said well that was an easy fix if you had iCloud. Which I did. And he said you just have to do a reset and store it back to what was last saved on the iCloud. And that took less then an hour. I feel so cheated out of my money my time and my peace of mind. This man just wanted me to keep buying their products. I then called the main number and I got on the phone with a woman to cancel the order of the hard drive. She said she was able to stop it before the transaction went through. So we will see if it was charged to my card. I am very upset that all this happened. Waiting and watching my computer for over 7 hours from star to finish for them to not even finish helping me. This place is a joke. Way to cheat people out of their money. I'm just afraid of all the other charges they will be adding to my card. This company is nothing but a scam.
