I ordered change of service from Insight Communications to Direct Tv.
Spoke to several people and was told they required my social security
number to check my credit. I refused to give it. Then I spoke to AT&T
to change service from Insight to AT&T. They offered promotional free
telephone along with several other items. They too requested my social security number which I refused to give. I was told I would not be eligible for the phone by refusing to give my social security
number. Both companies told me I would not be able to receive cell phone service until I gave my social security number. My question is
can these companies require and demand your social security number?
