I am a dual citizen and recently discovered that I should have been filing US tax returns. I purchased 6 years of the Premium online H&R Block US program to prepare my US taxes in June. An accountant discovered a flaw in the program in December when she reviewed my returns because it does not allow you to deduct the self employment tax that the program automatically adds. There is a treaty between the US and Canada for the deduction of the self employment tax. I tried to get a refund in December using the Chat support. I was supposed to get a call from someone in December but no one contacted me. I tried again this month (April) and they said they do not give refunds beyond the 60 day limit. I feel this is unfair because it is a problem with their program and it took me some time to find it as well as pay for an accountant to find the problem. There is nothing on their website that says it is not suitable for Canadian filers. I was directed to their website by my husband's cousin who owns H&R Block offices on Vancouver Island. I spent $400 on the 6 years of tax programs.
