I filed my taxes with H&R block for the last 4 years with no problem, until i moved to San Antonio, TX.
Last year i lived in NYC for most of the year, and VT for the beging of the year. So my tax return looked complicated for a regular preparer, I understand.
But they made me waste time going back and forward to their office until finally they got it done. They claimed that my return from the State of NY would be 2026 USD. It sounded about right since the year before i was not married and i worked in NY for 3 months and my return was around 200 USD. And my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) was around the same.
So we figured that working most of the year and now being marry that 2026 USD sounded great.
Long story short...
We filed our NY State refund by mail because H&R block told us it was the only way.
4 weeks passed by, and no return in my account i went online to check the progress and it was not there. And i also notice that i could have been filed online. So i called the preparer that helped me, we verified the adress she sounded nervous, she said the adress was right. And that she would check on the online filing.
Then she called again saying that she made a mistake and that our tax return should have been 200 dlls and that she already filed online.
We did not Authorized this, it is a HUGE discrepancy on both returns, i told her i want it to get a second opinion and she said that she made a mistake. If she was wrong the first time it is a big chance she es wrong the second time. Specially on a difference of 1800 USD. And my old return from NY shows more on a year that i only worked for 3 months versus 9 months. And now were filing as a married couple.
I really believe that something is wrong. Specially since they filed the second time WITHOUT any AUTHORIZATION.
We were counting with that money.
If there is something we can do about this i will do it.
They dont want to asume any responsibility for it, we are very hard working minority and new in this town and we dont know anybody to help us.
