I was called in the evening and told my computer was at risk. To fix and protect my computer I needed to pay $130 for one year or $299 for life. I am on a fixed income and cannot pay for this. Next they did a temporary "fix" for $70 and made an appointment to call when my monthly check comes in. The first caller was impossible to understand, so another man came on the phone with a slightly clearer accent. He got into my computer to show me the infected files and spent too much time making it clear that my computer is causing alerts in the "office" and if I don't get this fixed that the police will come to my door. The only info he got, I think, was my license number/ID and said that the number was not to be shared with anyone. I didn't even know the number existed. I am a senior citizen and the whole 35 minute call sounded like a sales call except for the expressed emergency and police. What?
