When I signed up to the gym last year, I had no way of foreseeing the unfortunate financial problems that would develop for my husband and I due to the struggling economy. When I made my plea to Shapes to allow me to cancel my contract (and I am MORE than willing to pay any early termination fees), unlike most large companies, they were very unsympathetic and are NOT willing to budge. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is going through a hard time financially, but I fear that I am one of the few who is wiling to step up and say anything about their personal situation. I'm not asking for anything for free, but considering SOMEONE created the membership contract, I find it hard to believe that there is NO ONE who is able to modify it for extreme circumstances. Hard times can fall on anyone, at any time and it should be in the best interest of the company to allow people to cancel with at least an early termination fee! I'm not trying to "scam" the company either... It isn't easy for me to have to give up something I enjoy, but my family comes first!
