Wyndham Vacation Resorts
Consumer Report

My wife and I bought a Wyndham Vacation Resorts timeshare on 8/27, but haven’t have never been able to use it, because we work all the time (we both have fulltime jobs and own 2 different business). We paid for a Party Weekend event on 9/17. I know this is to sell timeshares, but the best way to talk with Wyndham. The sales woman assigned to “take care of us” looked up our account and said we needed a Wyndham Plus program to “save our points” from expiring. We said that it didn’t make any difference as we have no time to use the timeshare. Each year we loose the points due to our busy schedules, and we are in fact looking to get rid of the timeshare. She said then what we need to do is buy the Wyndham Plus package that has a Right of First Refusal provision included and we will be able to sell both properties and recoup some of our investment. She stated we will lose about a quarter (25%) total of the purchase price of both properties. That is a big money loss for not using the timeshares, but she stressed it was our best option. We felt we had no choice. We trusted her as a representative of Wyndham to give us sound advice, especially knowing our circumstances. We have since learned that the Right of First Refusal provision protects Wyndham, not the timeshare owner. It is now very obvious that all this salesperson wanted was to sell us a 2nd timeshare at any cost. Her only concern was getting a commission.

This is blatant fraud. We bought the 2nd timeshare based on Wyndham’s representative’s recommendation that the Right of First Refusal provision was a Wyndham offer available to timeshare owners who want to sell their properties. I know you can say it is our word against hers. But consider this; we haven’t used the 1st timeshare ever, so why would we buy a 2nd timeshare? We have never been to a Wyndham resort. My wife and I both have very busy schedules because of our full time jobs and two separate businesses. We often work 14 hours per day, 7 days a week. This is no joke.

It is extremely painful to us that we spent ~$25,000 on the 1st timeshare and wasn’t able to use it and now Wyndham’s representative used all her sales tricks to get us to buy a second one! We sent a certified letter to Wyndham to take both timeshares back, but at the very least the second timeshare to be taken back, but never received anything back, even the certification confirmation delivery wasn’t received.

So I had no choice but to look to sell these things like in eBay and they go for $1.00! These timeshare companies are nothing but a LEGAL SCAM. Timeshares are illegal in countries like England for a good reason. What a screwed up country to allow this to continue. Makes you have to wonder whether they are under syndicate control or Congress.
