Wyndham Vacation Resorts
Consumer Report

My husband & I bought into the Wyndham Resorts timeshare when they were still Fairfield Resorts. Over the years, we've been able to use our points for short vacations and didn't have much of a problem until these past two years. We were told that upgrading our ownership into the Club Wyndham Access program was the best way to manage our account because it would provide us with more options to vacation, and most importantly, that if there ever came a time that we wanted to sell our ownership, then Wyndham would buy it back at the current value. The owner services rep/manager in Nashville, TN calculated what Wyndham would pay for our points at that time if we were in the Access program versus what they would pay if we weren't. There was a $30,000 difference. Of course, we were trusting of Wyndham believing that their representatives would be taking care of us, especially since we were already loyal owners. They brought out a stack of papers to sign, wouldn't allow us any time to take them with us to review them first, promised us that their verbal summation of each document was accurate so that they would let us be on our way quicker (we'd already been there over two hours). Now that we've hit some hard times and need to cut expenses, I called Wyndham's Financial Department and they've informed me that they don't buy back points and never have. I told the rep that my points are in Club Wyndham Access, and she said that didn't matter. That the only way for us to get rid of our timeshare obligations was to find our own buyer somewhere. I asked if I could just return all of my points (more points paid for than what remains on my account balance) so that my account be terminated, and she said that Wyndham doesn't accept point returns. Even though they sell points every single day, they're refusing to take back all my points and forgive the remaining balance even though they will be able to sell these off for more than what they've gotten out of me. Even when you buy a car, if you can't continue the payments, the lender can just take the car back and recoup the cost. The representatives at their site lied pure and simple. I've submitted a formal complaint with the FTC and will find other organizations to submit my complaint with. I used to think that Wyndham was an honest, reputable company, but not any more.
