I leased an apartment in the Kimbery Club complex. After I moved in, I discovered that the door had been replaced with one that was 2 inchess too short for the frame (BIG air gap at the base), the roof leaked into all three bedrooms, the patio door would not lock, the patio window latch was broken, the apartment's drywall was mildewed and molded, the air conditioner and heater did not work, the washer connections did not work/dryer connections vented to the interior of the apartment and the apartment's telephone lines had been hijacked by the neighbors.
I made several written complaints to the resident management and maintenance chief. After 6 weeks, I moved. They filed a breach-of-lease report with Equifax in the amount of $5,030.
The property was in a condition that made it illegal to offer for rent in Houston (Houston Muni Code) at all times that I lived there, and the owner refused to make repairs.
