I rented 2 different apartments from this jerk.in both situations there were major maintenence issues that were not resolved. Below I will detail each apartment and the issues associated with each.
The first apartment, located on Hermitage Drive opposite Coffee Manor Apartments (which are pretty nice might I add) had minor problems. The downstairs ceiling was damaged from a (still) leaking shower drain. The apartment was hard to keep cool / warm from the lack of insulation and proper door / window seals. It was near impossible to do laundry in house due to the miniature space provided for a washer / dryer, plus the lack of an outlet for the dryer exhaust. Despite repeated calls, none of this was repaired. The rent at this particualur apartment was $375 for my roommate and I. Other Indentical apartments in the same complex cost anywhere from $200 to $500, depending on how much you "appeared" to be able to afford.
The second apartment was a converted house located at 317 West Tuscaloosa Street. I rented the entire second story for $300 per month, and the equally sized two downstairs apartments were only $250 per month.in this apartment I had no heat for 10 months (which is the exact amount of time I lived in the apartment), little to no A/C, a MAJOR insect infestation, and yet again the ceiling leaked almost continuously. As far as the A/C was concerned, one of the 2 wall units worked, but not well. It was replaced with another not-so-well working unit. The other was never serviced / replaced. The gas heaters were missing from the walls and all the gas lines had breaks in them. The closest the management came to fixing this was to bring 2 heaters over and lay them in my living room only to later break into my apartment to retrieve one of them to fix the downstairs apartment's heat.
When questioned as to why my heat had not been repaired, it was because I was never home. I asked why they didn't go ahead and fix the heat while they were in my apartment retrieving a heater. I was told that it would be fixed the next day. I am pretty sure that almost a year has passed and it STILL isn't fixed.
As far as the insect infestation, I was told that I would have to pay to have the apartment sprayed, although the pest control company I was referred to told me that the property owner would have to call, as it was a rental property. I called the owner back, and got told that it would be taken care of, and of course it didn't.
I finally refused payment of rent until the apartment was repaired. I recieved 2 eviction notices and then just moved. The owner called to dun me for the money, only to find out that I no longer lived in the apartment and that the city building inspector had checked the apartment building out and condemned it that very day. I'm sure it is being rented out anyway, it was condemned when I moved in there I later found out.
Do not rent from this jerk. He will overcharge you for sleazy apartments and make you all kinds of promises he never intends to keep. He spends your rent money on cocaine and other narcotics.
