Consumer Report

I googled "Apple Tech Support" for my laptop issues. This website was the first to pop up with the url "apple. Support. Mytechhelp.com"... They obviously paid money to have that spot on Google search engine.

When I called the phone number, I was directed to an automated message that said "Welcome to Apple, please select from the following options..." Once I reached a representative, they asked for my laptop serial number and continued to pretend they were Apple employees.

After being on hold for 30 minutes, the representative informed my that my laptop (bought two hours ago) was a worthless brick and was not covered under Apple Care Protection Plan (again, as if she was an Apple representative).

However, she assured me that my computer would be fixed by an Apple technician for three payments of $100 ($300 total). I was completely upset with Apple at this point, and she sympathized. Little did I know that I wasn't dealing with Apple at all!

Twenty minutes later, an "Apple" technician was transferred to me. She told me to press four buttons... And my computer was fixed. It wasn't a brick at all, it just needed a reset. Nice. $300 for that. She also told me to log into "logmein123.com", which I did. She clicked a few buttons and the phone call ended.

After looking at my credit card statement ($100 charge from Tec.Pro), and ACTUALLY talking to Apple Inc., I realized I was misled. I called "mytechhelp.com" and the man who answered my call was EXTREMELY condescending, and accused me of fabricating the story, "Well of COURSE we aren't Apple! HAHAHAHA. How did she mislead you? What were her EXACT WORDS?" then he interrupted me and put me on hold.

When he came back on the line, he was less rude, and said he would refund my first payment ($100) and charge me $60 for the tech help, then another $100 for the first year's worth of service. I told him that would not work for me, and that I wanted all service with the company to be cancelled.

He explained to me that the technician who "helped" me needed to be paid, and that $60 of the initial $100 was for that purpose. I agreed to that, and asked that I receive the remaining $40 as a refund instead of full $100. Additionally, I repeated that I did not want the company to charge my credit card again... No recurring charges, nothing. I told him I did not need any additional service from them, and was only willing to pay the upfront fee (WHICH WAS ALREADY PAID).

After he agreed to this, he told me he was processing the refund, which would take 24-48 hours to show up on my statement. I was hoping he was being honest, but after looking at the company's reviews, I had my doubts.

I called my credit company immediately after hanging up the phone with mytechhelp.com. I realized that the person had in fact charged my card AGAIN for $60... And I would have to wait to see if the refund went through. To be continued...

My advice to those who have been defrauded by this company is as follows:

1) Call your credit company to issue a stop payment from this company

2) Change your credit card number so this company cannot initiate new charges

3) Report this company to the Better Business Bureau

4) If this company had remote access to your computer (via Logmein123.com or otherwise), call the ACTUAL tech support offered by your computer manufacturer (e. G: apple.com), and have your computer completely reset, with all passwords changed. This is NOT a company that should have access to your web passwords, credit card information, etc. They are in the business of fraud, and nothing else.

5) ALWAYS ensure that you are talking to Apple, and nobody else. Refer to the number on your warranty booklet when looking for tech support, and when you call from your phone it should say "Apple Inc." on the call display.
