Charged $34 after agreeing to pay $18

I asked a question on this website and agreed to pay 18.00 I thought that was all they were going to charge my debit card but they charged $34.00. I wrote to them requesting a credit of 16.00 to my account and wonder if they will in fact return this money to my account. I won't get sucked into this type of scam anymore, that is for sure!
