One year ago I switched my internet service to Time Warner Cable under the following explicit agreement:
- one year promotional pricing of $34.95
- after that year concludes the price is $44.95
- free installation
- free modem
Now I got two separate letters from TWC:
- starting Oct12, a Modem Lease fee of $3.95/month applies
- the monthly full retail rate is now $51.95
This is classic bait-and-switch tactics that I can not respect. I made a choice to leave Verizon for TWC that was based on the specifics of the verbal and written contract as above. If TWC now needs to up their rates then please tell me so fair and square instead of breaking the contract they sold me to and hassling me for monthly payment over a modem that's literally worth less than $20 to them by now - if even. My given choice is to pay or to return their modem and install my own. No one is paying me for the time that would cost me - and the remaining value of the modem to them will surely be wiped out by their handling my modem return. I suppose they get a kick-back from Motorola (... Their 'approved modem' provider). Lastly - offering me some temporary 'additional savings' reprieve for an unspecified number of month that's worth exactly $1/month over my original and specific agreement does NOT make up for all this. I will cancel my service unless TWC at least specifies a timeframe for the offered 'additional savings' or concedes to me that their behavior is wrong or lets me pay for their service according to the specific contract they sold me to:
$44.95 with free modem use!
