Harrassers

I recently put a ring on craigslist. A person sent me an email (from [email protected]) asking if "the item" was still for sale. You usually know its a scam cuz they always refer to it as an "item" and never the name of which they want to purchase. This person told me to reply to his number of 347-669-4704 with my response. I didnt really think much of it but i texted him/her.

He said" thanks for reply. Am very interested in buying your item, and will like to be this item NOW for my twin who is getting married. I will provide you $50 for shipping cost via Fedex. Provide me your paypal so I can make payment with no delay. "They asked for my paypal info - (even tho on my ad it says i will not do paypal, they clearly dont read them). I have already gotten a paypal scam from one of these guys before (but never sent the item out). They send u a fake email from "paypal" saying that they sent you money-but trust me they dont. Its fake. They will try to tell u that they need the shipping confirmation before they can submit the money-YOU WILL NEVER GET THE money. I promise. I told the guy to stop texting/messaging me or id call the cops.

He replied with "you wanna report soldier to cops? Im smiling". I have ben in the army mind you, i know how things work. I asked him to provide me his rank name and unit to verify and he replied "i laugh at you. Everything in military is classified okay" Clearly hes trying to scam me and has no idea what hes talking about. These people are very illiterate. This is part of what i believe is a "NIGERIA SCAM" look it up. These ppl will threaten you if they want to, but dont believe anything they say. They will threaten you to send your item or else they will notify IC3 or the FBI or some junk - These ppl are lying and dont have the resources.

They just want to scare you. The most obvious to me its a scam is when they try and rush you when they say " i need this ITEM for my family/friends WEDDING" or "i need this now by tomorrow" or something of the like. Dont trust it. If you dont want to give out your number, use an app called "TextPlus"-the app provides you with a totally different number that shows on outgoing messages.incoming texts/calls will be directed back to the number on ur app so they will never know your real number. For ads on craiglist, the best thing to do to avoid a scam is to meet in person with cash. Good luck.
