Stealing Credit Card Number - Unauthorized ActiveAdvantage (Active.com) membership charge

Active.com is basically stealing your credit card number and getting away with it.

I just noticed a charge on my credit card bill for $59.95 for "ACT Registration." I contacted my credit card company and told them this was an unauthorized charge and also called the Active.com company. It turns out that not only was I charged this year, I was also charged last year for a membership to Active.com.

The company representatives told me that I must have hit the button for a "free trial membership" and the fine print states that you will be registered for Active.com unless you cancel.

1. I'm completely disputing this claim. The website and its "free trial" does not interest me in the slightest. There is no-way I would have pressed "yes" for a free trial. But this is my word against Active.com.

2. They said I registered around January 27. This is around the same time that I think I donated to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. Active.com, I believe, runs some of the donation sites. So after I donated to this cause, Active-com apparently stole my number for their own benefit.

3. However, it is unclear where or how they really got my credit card number. I talked to a 2nd Active.com representative to remove both charges, and she asked if I had registered myself or my kids for anything, such as, camp. I told her I had registered my daughter for Girl Scout camp. She told me that is when I must have accidently pressed "yes" for the "free trial" at that time. I told her that was impossible because the Girl Scouts do not use outside sites for the registration process. So then she noticed I had registered for a marathon 6 years ago and she said that must have been when I registered. I questioned her on why I was being charged (according to the 1st representative) just last year, for something I was involved in 6 years ago? I finally asked about the donation I gave, and she claimed that I must have registered for the free trial during that time. I have no idea where the charge came from and neither do they.

Because of this company, I will never give to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day again. I hate to punish a good cause, but my credit card information is not safe as long as they are connected to Active.com. I think it is shameful that Active.com is stealing credit card numbers that were orginally given for a donation.

Active.com did quickly and easily refund my money from both years. But for every person that catches this on their bill there is probably 10 people not catching it. They will gladly refund your money if you catch it. But if you don't catch it, you will be a victim of their scam. There should be laws against this parasitic behavior. They keep getting away with this theft because when most people get their money refunded, they are done fighting it.
