I purchased my second (and last) Dell machine three months ago. I made my purchase online and they advertised a one-year no interest offer if I qualified with Dell Financial Services through their "preferred customer account". I applied and I was told that I qualified. I made my purchase and decided to pay it off before the year was over. I had made one payment of $55 the first month and the second month, I paid $150, still no interest.
Now I just received my third invoice and suddenly my account balance has gone up, my interest rate is 27.99% APR and I have a "deferred finance charge" of 15.54 and a "finance charge" of 16.49. I called the customer service reps (in India) and was told that I only qualified for a 25 day no interest. I assured the representative that I would not have agreed to something like that but she insisted that I had, providing no proof that I had agreed to such a thing.
Since then, I have tried the website, the online help, the message boards, and have found that I am not alone in the scam. I am furious and will charge the rest of what I owe to my credit card, which believe it or not, has lower interest rates.
I have read about penalties for early payment, so I can deal with that next, I am sure...
