I, too, have had problems with Syntax not paying rebates and not recording the rebate requests sent to them.
As is the case with many rebates these days they only want ORIGINAL receipts submitted with them. Well, I ordered 2 items in one order from eCost.com. Both had rebates from Syntax but the shipment only contained one original shipping receipt. Luckily, both rebates were with Syntax and went to the same address with the same rebate #. I attached a note with the submitted rebates explaining this. I complied exactly with the requirements of the rebate forms and the one original receipt submitted for both items. (How can you possibly have an original receipt for every item if you order a number of items in one order???)
Checked back after about 6 wks and only one shows up on the rebate site. I called, they said wait. I wrote to them - no response. I called again and they told me the story that they will pull my records from the warehouse and to check back in 10 business days. Only one rebate still showing up on the website. Emailed them with cys of everything asking for satisfaction - no answer yet. It has been about 10 wks total so far. At no time have they told me there was anything wrong with submitting the one original receipt for both rebates. They also told me that they do not respond to any letters sent to them.
Will have to contact the BBB if I do not see some action by the end of this week. I suspect that they just tossed one of the rebates, maybe because they didn't see 2 original shipping receipts but that was impossible and I did comply by providing them with the original shipping receipt with both of the rebates.
The "original" shipping invoice for web orders may be a way that companies will try to avoid paying rebates since usually only one invoice comes with a web order. You would have to order each rebate item seperately (and pay the addl shipping) to get an ORIGINAL shipping receipt for each.
