In recent weeks I had two rebates rejected by wheresmyrebate.com. After the first time I might have considered it an "incident", but the second time seems to be more of a "pattern".
The first rejection was for an $80 rebate on Netgear products purchased from Fry's Outpost.com. I submitted all the items designated on the rebate form. I received an email from wheresmyrebate stating "Store Receipt Not Submitted" and "Send Packing Slip". I called their (non-tollfree) number and was told that I needed to supply the confirmation email I received for the order. I explained that this was in no way designated on the form for the rebate.in this case I still was able to find the confirmation email (and the packing slip), and I faxed them (along with copies of all the original submission). My rebate has since been designated as "valid".
This week I received a second (almost identical) rejection email from wheresmyrebate regarding a $50 rebate submission for a Samsung laser printer I purchased (online) from Office Depot. This email stated "Invalid incomplete or altered receipt", "No date and/or transaction #", "Store receipt not submitted", and "Send packing slip". The original rebate form called for a "copy of the sales receipt". (The original, unaltered Office Depot receipts that I submitted contained the date and transaction number.) Unfortunately in this case I did not have the confirmation email for this item or the packing slip.
I contacted Office Depot at their corporate headquarters (1-800-937-3600) and received OUTSTANDING service. The individual I spoke with looked up my order and had me fax the information I had sent to wheresmyrebate. Within 5 minutes I received a call back informing my that Office Depot would be sending me a $50 check for this item. Now THIS is an example of great customer service! (I am also notifying Samsung that the company they contract with to handle their rebates is a poor reflection on Samsung's image.)
