I used the web ti sign up for TV package. After reviewing Dish networks offerings vs. Direct TV I decided to go with Dish networks due to lower price. While Direct TV provided very clear monthly cost Dish network did not. So I picked the package I wanted, selected FREE DVR and FREE receiver, with that I gave my credit card info and become a customer of Dish networks. Few minutes later I received confirmation to my order with the package I requested (well sort of), FREE DVR, FREE receiver and bunch of 3 month free channels. The only cost showed was the package I picked (similar to what I just finished at the web site) - so far so good.
Once the installer came and installed the equipment I realized that I actually received the wrong package so I called to upgrade. The operator was happy to do that for me and then I learned about the actual monthly cost. Apparently, the FREE DVR cost $6/month and the FREE receiver cost $7/months
My first reaction was to cancel the service and return the equipment right there (the installer was still around). But the operator informed me that a service charge of $420 will be applied (indeed I signed on service cancellation penalty but is this my fault?).
Needless to say, after 24 months of service (good or not) I will drop them. I also have few friends that are shopping for satellite services so I can warn them what not to select.
