On June 1 I bought a Cricket UM185C usb modem, and so my first months service would be free. The salesman said I could send to get a $50 rebate on the modem, but there was an expiration of May 31. He said I'd be alright since he got me in the system. Nearly a month later I got a letter saying my rebate was denied, and I'd seen later online that others have had problems getting it.
Before my fees for the next month were due I called to say my modem was missing. My account was suspended until I might find it. This Sunday I called to let them know I got it. So I was being hit with a $10 fee for being late, even though I was not sure I'd get my modem back as I thought it was stolen. They would give me a courtesy deduction of the $10, but it would not show up for 24 hours. So to use my modem again I'd have to pay $50.53, and if I wanted to pay with a credit card there would be another charge.
I went to the foreign guy where I bought it and said I'd found it. So again I was informed that I'd have to pay $50.53 to get online, despite having called about my modem being lost. I was nearly livid. So I was gonna pay with a credit card, but then there'd be another fee of $5. So then I laid down $51 for my services, but he said there was an extra $3 fees I'd have to pay as well. At that point I was super frustrated and took my money back.
As for this modem, it is okay but not as fast as free wifi. I got the card since I can't get to hotspots very often. I am so annoyed and put off by their deeds. Buyer beware!
