When I was buying the biz, I remember sitting in the office with the owner learning how to run her business the way she did it. We were getting the utilities switched over & she was paying final bills, when she came across a bill for online advertising.
"Not again!" she exclaimed.
"What?"
"Another bill for online advertising. I TOLD them I don't want it, they say they'll cancel it, but they keep sending me a bill."
"Did you ever ask them to advertise for you?"
"No."
"Then don't pay it."
"I don't want you to get stuck with it."
"No biggie. I can ignore the best of them. If it isn't a valid debt, they have no right to collect."
She was dialing the phone number on the bill. After a brief conversation, telling them to cancel it because there was a new owner coming on board and she did not want the new owner to be strapped by this bill...
Then, she was writing a check.
