I had cable installed in my apartment in 2005. I purchased a modem from best buy at that time because I didn't want to pay for modem rental. When I moved I moved the service with me. I wasn't home when the tech was there so he left me a modem. I immediately called to find out where to return the Comcast modem only to discover that for the past 18 months Comcast had been charging me the rental fee anyway! I asked the CS agent if they could deduct the fees owed back to me from my bill to which the CS agent responded with "Good luck with that."!?! He advised me to talk to the rep in person when I returned the modem mistakenly left by their installer, the original purpose of my call. He said to be sure to take the MAC address so they could check their records for it.
I went the next day to return the Comcast modem & described the situation to the rep at the counter. She took the MAC address & said that it wasn't in their system but "sometimes our equipment goes out in the field before we get a chance to enter it, the burden of proof is on you."
I said I didn't have a receipt it had been nearly 2 years & I had moved, how could they say I had to prove it when I'm returning a modem I didn't need because I had MY OWN MODEM! They had already been fraudulently charging me for a year and a half when my original install invoice clearly shows I had my own modem the MAC address isn't in their files because it doesn't belong to them WTF?!!
I actually tried to retrieve any record of the purchase from my credit card co & the best buy where I bought it to no avail. To this day I still receive about 2 calls a day from their debt collectors CRC even though I have asked several times that they not call my cell phone and have explained the situation to them dozens of times. I'm going to copy this post and send it to my representatives in government this is ridiculous. Comcast is a bully and needs to be put in check!
