Julian Wheatley aka veracotti hired me on rentacoder.com to build a flash page for his client at chubbygang. Jp. 4 days after selecting my bid he still had not sent me the assets he had told me he would send which I required to start the project, he then sent the assets and said that I had 24 hours to respond to him. 12 hours after posting his 24 hour deadline he opened an arbitration on the site, even tho the deadline for the project was still 3 days away. He complained that I wasn't communicating enough. He was given the option to cancel the project. He declined and insisted that I finish the work by the deadline while stipulating that if he wasn't 100% satisfied he would not pay for the work. I finished all the work by the deadline and he proceeded to pick it apart in the most rediculous ways, siting 20 flaws in a project that only had about 6 requirements, many of which he had to later retract because they were simply non-existant. The arbitration dragged on literally for months as he grasped at any thing he could to take the work without paying for it. After a while I found through google that chubbygang. Jp had gone live, with my work which I still had not been paid for and was still dealing with this extremely bs arbitration. Finally, after 2 months of fighting with this guy, when the arbitration was about to be closed and in all likelihood awarded in my favor, he found that I had used the tweener class in my project (code. Google.com/p/tweener) and that I had not notified him prior to the arbitration entering into testing that I had used this 3rd party code. The result of this was an immediate forfeiture of the arbitration by me as RAC considers this fraud, even tho tweener has a copyright license with literally no restrictions. RAC has also informed me that because of this fraud they will be closing my account when my other projects are completed. I do bear the responsibility for this as I was not really aware that I had to disclose using 3rd party code even if there's no license restrictions on it. I hope any other freelance coders out there will read that and take it to heart so as not to wind up in the same boat as me. Finally in the end Julian did have to get my work removed from the chubbygang. Jp website when he was threatened with legal action. But in the end for me a project that should have only taken 3 days to 7 days max laster about 75 days and I did not get one red penny for my time, I got a negative review on my RAC account from losing the arbitration and now my RAC account will likely be closed for "fraud". This guy had no intentions of paying me from the very start and would bend over backwards to save a buck and screw over an honest programmer. Oh by the way, the amount he owed me was $175, so he dragged me through 75 days of hell, seriously injured my livelihood by having my rac account shut down after having built up quite a decent reputation on the site with 105 projects completed, even after having sold my work to his client for god knows how much money, all to save himself the amount of money that I make it one day.in 3 years of being a freelance flash developer I have had some bad run-ins but nothing comes even remotely close to this and I hope anyone considering doing work for this guy in the future will not have similar experiences.
